Product Review: Rich Piana 5% Nutrition Real Food

Before we begin on this product review, check out the rest of the Rich Piana’s 5% Nutrition line that I reviewed:

I’ve always said that if you had a choice between eating real food or supplements to go with eating real food. When I say real food I mean chicken breast and hamburger… but Rich Piana came up with a supplement called “Real Food” and it’s just as good.

I got some of Rich Piana’s 5% Nutrition supplements over at the guys at I’ll Pump You Up and I was going to write what I thought about them and give you an honest review.

What is Rich Piana’s Real Food?

5% Nutrition’s Real Food supplement is a whole food carbohydrate supplement that uses slow burning carb sources – sweet potatoes, dried fruit, and oatmeal. Since these are low glycemic foods, you won’t have the blood sugar spikes you see from consuming sugary foods and drinks.

This is meant to give you a flexible solution to hit your macros and get some healthy foods into your body.

The goal of this supplement is to help give you a healthy carb source instead of the usual grab and go type meals and foods you may eat when busy.

Flavors

Currently they offer two flavors:

  • Blueberry Cobbler
  • Sweet Potato Pie

I got the sweet potato pie, so my taste review is of this flavor.

Cutty’s Review

Now that I got past all of the factual information about the product, let me give you MY review of Rich Piana’s 5% Nutrition Real Food.

The ingredients are straight forward and from what I know about the 5% Nutrition company, it’s legit.

When I opened the package it came in, I immediately saw that this container was cool and actually great because I won’t have to try to fit my hand and arm down into a jug like every other supplement. Remember, it’s the small things that make us happy.

I popped the tab off the side and ripped the lid off only to see what looked like uncooked oatmeal. This stuff smells great and I hoped that it tasted like it smelled.

Of course I couldn’t find the scoop, it took about a minute of digging to the bottom to find the mini shovel. (again, cool as hell)

Mixability and Taste Test

I don’t really measure how much water I use, although I checked the barely visible line on my old shaker cup and saw I had about 9 ounces of water in it.

I dumped 1 scoop into my shaker and shook it up… I was surprised how well it mixed.

While there are actual pieces of oats (see picture above) that don’t dissolve, everything else mixed up like you think it should.

It has a faint smell of sweet potatoes and tastes just like a sweet potato pie that isn’t too sweet. I thought there would for sure be some sort of after taste or downside to using only real foods in this, but there isn’t.

The oats add a level of consistency that you have to chew some, giving the feeling of eating real food.. I had my reservations about it, but it’s actually pleasing.

Price and Availability

While the retail price of $79.99 is fair for a product like this, I’ll Pump You Up sells it for $41.95.

I buy all of my supplements from I’ll Pump You Up because they seem to have the best pricing on most things, they get their packages out fast, and it’s well packed. I highly recommend checking them out.

Conclusion

I’m currently reviewing multiple products from Rich Piana’s 5% Nutrition line. I will be adding links to the other supplements in his line I’m reviewing as they come up, so be sure to check back regularly.

I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavor of this product. I’ve tried many different carb type of supplements and most taste like medicine – but this one doesn’t.

The value you get from this product is well worth the cost and honestly I would pay the retail price if I needed a carb supplement.

It leaves a little bit of a mess in your shaker cup from some of the oats settling and then staying in there once you finish your shake, but that’s about the only negative thing I have to say about this product.

Would Cutty Buy It?

The short answer is “sure” but let me explain.

I currently am running a low carb diet in which I get most of my carbs from vegetables and fruit; this means I don’t really need a carb supplement. On days I want to add in a few more carbs, I will plan on drinking a shake or two… simply because it tastes good.

I may try another shake again here later with some milk to see if I can make a “cheater sundae” and curb my cravings for sweet stuff with this.

Once I am done dieting down, I will use this supplement as a good source of carbs so I don’t have to keep eating rice and junk food all of the time.

Would I recommend this to someone needing a carb supplement or looking to get more nutrition into their diet? Absolutely.

This is a solid product and I would recommend it to anyone looking to get extra carbs or nutrition in. This should not substitute actual food that you eat, but this is a great supplement you can take during the day to keep your metabolism stoked and get those precious carbs you need to perform.

If you get some, let me know how you like it and if you’ve come up with any other recipes with it that you think I should try.

  1. Just wondering why it would trigger anyone’s anxiety if it’s all natural food no stimulates I see on the ingredients???

    1. I’ve always wondered about that but I think they are trying to cover their ass from a legal standpoint lol. Throw everything in the mix just in case someone says it gives them something.

But yeah I don’t really see a reason why you would get anxiety. I didn’t when I used the product.
