Cabbage Soup Diet Exposed

What is the Cabbage Soup Diet? It is a 7 day fad diet stating you will lose 10 pounds in a week on this diet.

Remember: This diet should only be followed for 7 days at a time, with at least two weeks in between.

Pros: You’ll lose weight fast, and for the week, you can eat as much of the foods listed in the program as you want. Although the diet is only for seven days (and shouldn’t be followed for longer), it provides a great “kick-start” for a more moderate diet.

Cons: Some people find the soup bland. Others report feeling light-headed, weak, and have suffered from decreased concentration (although I hear that many people think the diet is worth the effort anyway, since they lose so much weight!).

Diet Plan

Day One:

Eat only soup and all of the fruit you want (except bananas). For drinks you can have unsweetened tea, cranberry juice and water.

Day Two:

Eat soup with lots of vegetables and no fruit, raw or cooked leafy greens staying away from beans, corn, and peas, and have a baked potato with some butter.

Day Three:

Eat all of the soup, vegetables, and fruit you want. Don’t eat bananas or a baked potato.

Day Four:

Eat soup plus up to eight bananas and drink as much skim milk as you would like.

Day Five:

Eat soup at least once today. Eat ten to twenty ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. Make sure to drink at least six to eight glasses of water today. Don’t like beef? You can eat broiled or baked chicken with no skin or broiled fish but not both.

Day Six:

Eat soup, beef and vegetables. Today is the day to pack in the food. Leafy green vegetables and no baked potato. Eat as much beef as you want.

Day Seven:

Eat soup, brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables. Stuff yourself and eat as much as you want.

Conclusion

PROS:

Although this diet is not a healthy way to spend a week crash dieting, there are some good points in the meal plan that you should use to create a healthy lifestyle.

  • The use of a low caloric food to help you be more satisfied throughout the day. Lets face it, restricting calories sucks; especially when you are hungry!
  • It has you eat a variety of healthy foods including fruits, vegetables, and meat. This is something you should do daily to create a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

CONS:

This week long meal plan might give you a great weight loss because you are depleting your glycogen levels in your muscles and losing ‘water weight.’ When you come off of this diet you are going to gain back at least the weight you lost, if not more since the soup recipe has quite a bit of sodium. Adding more seasoning to the known ‘bland’ soup is just going to add more sodium; this will make you hold more water after the diet and can have other adverse effects on health.

Many people claim to feel weak and light headed on this diet; very low carbohydrate intake without dietary fats is not advised. You do not get enough protein daily in this diet; this is also unhealthy.

I strongly feel this diet is going to hurt you in the long run if you follow this diet. You will lose weight but not in a sustainable or even healthy way and will gain weight back shortly after the diet is over. A largely known side effect of this cabbage soup diet is farting; so be prepared.
